HMRC have confirmed they will be introducing the “off-payroll rules” to the private sector from April 2020. Whilst the final legislation is yet to be confirmed (expected in summer 2019), there are many preparations that both clients and contractors need to make.

What you need to know

Clients: Supporting you to be IR35 compliant

As of April 2020, ‘end clients (you) will be responsible for assessing contractors’ tax status.

You must take ‘reasonable care’ in determining IR35 status. Each individual role, working practices and contract must be reviewed. Incorrect assessments could lead to PAYE tax and Employers National Insurance Contributions liability.
